One of the ways that I like to save money is by cutting my own hair at home. For years, my mother had been the one to cut my hair but once I went off to college I started to go the salon to get my hair cut.
In order to save some money at the salon, I would often just get the bare minimum done, which meant having them spray my hair down with water before cutting it and then leaving the salon with wet hair since blow drying was extra. Sometimes I would end up with a good haircut but most of the time I would end up with either my hair being uneven or cut too short.
I became tired of spending money on haircuts that I didn’t really like and one idea that came to mind was to start cutting my own hair at home. After doing some research that was when I came across the CreaClip.
The CreaClip is basically a clip that you clip onto your hair to use as a guide when cutting your hair. You place the clip around the section of hair that you want to cut and once you lock the clip in place you pull the clip down to the desired length and just cut the hair underneath the clip using scissors or a hair clipper.
You can either cut your hair yourself by pulling your hair off the side and hold the clip vertically to cut it or can just have someone else cut the hair underneath the clip for you. I usually just have my husband cut my hair using his hair trimmers to make sure that I get an even cut.
Here is my before and after pic after using the CreaClip.
The clips themselves have teeth in them to help evenly distribute the hair along with a built in leveler to make sure that you will get an even cut. When I cut my hair with the CreaClip I first wash and blow dry my hair and then straighten it using a straighter. I really try to make sure that my hair is as straight as possible before using the CreaClip to ensure that I will have a more even haircut.
For me, getting the CreaClip has been a great investment since I have used the CreaClip for the past few years now and have been pretty happy with the results. I have the Orginal CreaClip Set ($39.99) which comes with a pair of scissors and two clips- one for cutting long hair and a smaller one for cutting bangs or creating layers with.
Have any of you tried cutting your own hair? If so, what techniques have you used?
